Immaculate Conception

1660s
Oil on canvas
Museo Lázaro Galdiano, Madrid

Antolínez earned a living from devotional paintings, especially of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception. His versions of the Immaculate Conception follow a set formula, including a peculiar, ovoid facial type, they are painted with deep, delicious colours and a richly textured brushwork.
