The artist made five paintings showing the Town Hall from the Nieuwezijds. The model for the four oldest variants may well have been this drawing which combines all the staffage elements found in the various painted versions. The most remarkable thing in the drawing is the house between the two tall neck gables and the spout gable: it has both the original wooden spout gable and the new neck gable.
