Carlsberg was founded in 1847 by J. C. Jacobsen; the company headquarters are in Copenhagen, Denmark. The company's flagship brand is Carlsberg (named after Jacobsen's son Carl).

In 1904, the Danish architect-designer Thorvald Bindesbøll was commissioned to design the label that will redefine the look of Carlsberg beer forever. During the same year, Carlsberg also became the first Danish brewery to receive an appointment to supply beer to the Royal Danish Court. The crown in the Carlsberg label is a testament to this prestigious honour.
