Oil on canvas, 64 x 76 cm

This painting represents a scene from the so-called Northern War, which was fought between 1700 and 1721. It shows the Swedish troops beating their enemies.

This conflict was fought in Northern and Eastern Europe. It arose chiefly from the desire of the neighbours of Sweden to break Swedish supremacy in the Baltic area, and from the conflicting ambitions of Peter I of Russia and Charles XII of Sweden.
