The Hôtel de Montesson, designed by Brogniart c. 1770, was a relatively modest hôtel just east of the Rue de la Chaussée d'Antin, recalling the early work of Boullée. At this building a battery of six smooth pilasters orchestrated an avant-corps of five windows, decorated with garlands and bas-reliefs, topped by a strong cornice.
