Gula (Gluttony)

1556-57
Engraving, 225 x 295 mm
British Museum, London

Gula means immoderation or gluttony and is numbered among the Seven Deadly Sins, which Bruegel portrayed in seven sheets full of fantastic figures and terrifying visions. In this engraved work from the series Bruegel represented the Vices as elaborate allegories peopled by Boschian monsters.
