Pieter Breughel the Younger (the sons adopted a different spelling of the family name) specialized in copies of his father's work, though he ought really to be pictured as the head of a workshop in which a number of painters were employed. Some of these were more talented than others, which explains the substantial differences in quality between the many copies ascribed to him. The Village Lawyer, dated 1621, is believed to be an original work by Pieter the Younger rather than a copy. It too proved very popular and many versions of it have survived.
