Arsenale, Venice

At the Arsenal, a site dedicated to public celebration and where, particularly in the years of Doge Francesco Morosini (1688-1694), it was decided to launch a series of architectural and decorative projects, Heinrich Meyring and Giovanni Comin sculpted three allegorical statues. The first was Justice, signed, and comparable to their most elegant female figures, and next Neptune and Mars, also signed, and placed on the campo at the entrance. These last two statues were by Comin and clearly recall the prototypes by Sansovino that flank the Scala dei Giganti in the Palazzo Ducale.
