Hans Daucher's small-scale relief carvings in the soft limestone of South Germany featured both religious and mythological subjects as well as portraits of the emperor and other leading nobles. The present relief shows the holy figures comfortably fitted underneath an elaborate, projecting Italianate triumphal arch. The artist aspired to provide an appealing religious devotional image in the latest Italian style.
