DESPREZ, Louis Jean
(b. 1743, Auxerre, d. 1804, Stockholm)
In 1786, King Gustavus III commissioned the Botanikum (Linnéanum) in Uppsala. designed by Olof Tempelman (1745-1816), it was later altered by the French architect Louis Jean Desprez, who used a Roman temple as his basic template, a building type that is clearly expressed in the portico. He combined this typology with a block of buildings featuring tall, densely arrayed windows.
