The Psalter, or Book of Psalms, derives its name from a Greek word meaning "songs accompanied by string music." It consists of 150 songs of praise in poetic form, of which the biblical king David was believed to be the author. The image of David often stands at the beginning of the Psalter. On this folio David in an initial A is depicted.
