Two panels in the Cini Collection, the Assumption of St John the Evangelist, and St John the Evangelist Drinking from the Poisoned Cup, portrays episodes from the life of the saint taken from the apocryphal Act of John the Evangelist, later reproduced in the Legenda Aurea. The panels must have been part of a predella, possibly from the polyptych in the church of San Giovanni Fuorcivitas in Pistoia, executed between 1348 and 1353.
