Angel holding a Curtain

c. 1325
Marble
Museo Sant'Agostino, Genoa

The wall tomb of Guarniero degli Antelminelli in San Francesco, Sarzana, comprises a sarcophagus supported on consoles, a death chamber surmounted by a tabernacle and a baldacchino covering the whole, following Sienese models. The pose of the angels holding a curtain in the death chamber corresponds to that of two surviving angels from a tomb (Museo Sant'Agostino, Genoa), which was probably made by Giovanni di Balduccio c. 1325.
