The Gothic relief above the main arch of the medieval Porta Ticinese in Milan represents (from left) at the sides of the Madonna: Sts Lawrence, Augustine and Ambrose, and a Dominican saint (likely Peter of Verona, since his grave stands just a few hundred meters away from this gate).
The sculptures on the Porta Ticinese and the signed and dated architrave (1347) on the main door of Santa Maria di Brera mark stages in the deterioration of Giovanni's artistic powers in the 1340s.
