Jean-Ignace-Isidore Gérard, known as J.J. Grandville excelled in the genre of caricature. His illustrations for Un Autre Monde are said to have been inspired by Goya, yet in their enjoyment of bizarre views and the personification of inanimate objects they seem to share more with the world of Hieronymus Bosch and the work of the Surrealists.

The picture shows an illustration for his Un Autre Monde.
