GREBBER, Pieter de

Portrait of a Youth

-
Oil on panel, 79 x 62 cm
Liechtenstein Museum, Vienna

Since numerous studies of young men clad in fur and gold chains have survived in the work of Rembrandt and his pupils, it was thought for a time this painting to be a work of the Rembrandt school, and it was attributed both to Jan Lievens and Aert de Gelder. However, now Pieter de Grebber is generally accepted as the author.
