Tableware Set of Nine Blown Vessels

1916
Glass
Corning Museum of Glass, New York

Josef Hoffmann made designs in a variety of materials, including glass, wood, ceramic, and silver. In 1903, he helped to establish the Wiener Werkstätte (Vienna Workshops), which produced all kinds of decorative arts, from jewellery to designs for complete rooms. Hoffmann's work in glass is characterized by simple, full forms and spare, often geometric, decoration.

The present table set is a product of Meyr's Neffe in Adolfov, one of the Bohemian glassworks that fabricated the Wiener Werkstätte's designs. It is of glass, mould blown, cracked-off rims and feet, and polished. The heights of the smallest and tallest objects are 8 and 33 cm, respectively.
