France is the land of the Baroque garden, but in the 18th century the less rigid British landscape garden very quickly became popular as well. The landscaped English-style garden (Jardin Anglais) at the Palace of Fontainebleau was created between 1810 and 1812 by the architect Hutault on Napoleon's decision to replace Francis I's pine tree garden. A river spurts out from a rock and flows through the garden. The meadow is embellished by many different species of trees.
