Sint-Romboutstoren, Mechelen

The Tower of St Rumbold was intended to be highest tower ever built (167 metres), but later the upper part of the tower was abandoned for financial reasons. The tower should have been topped by a 77-metre spire but only seven metres of this were built, hence the unusual shape.

The original design of the tower was from Jan II Keldermans, and four members of the well-known family helped to finish the tower: Andries I, Antoon I, Antoon II and Rombout II.
