Panorama with Farmhouses along a Road

1655
Oil on canvas, 133 x 168 cm
Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam

Many of Koninck's landscapes consist of two horizontal strips, the lower one containing a panoramic view of a flat stretch of countryside, the one at the top a cloud-filled sky majestically spanning the earth as far as the horizon. That is the case with the Panorama with Farmhouses along a Road, one of the artist's most beautiful works.
