This miniature on folio 72r depicts the Descent of the Holy Spirit. It is by Jan Tavernier, a fully accomplished master of the grisaille technique, which is superbly suited to modeling figures and objects and thereby imbuing them with a three-dimensional quality. Tavernier illuminated a number of manuscripts using this technique.
