LE TAVERNIER, Jean
(active 1434-1460 in Burgundy)

Miracles de Notre-Dame

c. 1456
Manuscript (Ms. français 9198)
Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris

This miniature on folio 19r of the codex shows Jean Miéllot, a famous writer and translator, in the middle of his work on a codex. Miéllot worked as a secretary to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy (reigned 1419-1467) and his successor Charles the Bold (reigned 1467-1477).

As demonstrated by the miniature, Le Tavernier was a master of the grisaille technique.
