The Bigallo Master can be considered the most characteristic exponent of the Florentine painting of the first half of the 13th century. In the past the painter was thought to have been influenced mostly by the Luccan painting of the period, whereas he must have been particularly attentive to the developments of the Pisan painting of the time, particularly in the mature phase of his activity.
