The Venetian writing master Giovanni Antonio Tagliente (c. 1465-c. 1527) published in 1524 "Lo presente libro insegna la vera arte delo excellente scrivere ("This Book Teaches the True Art of Calligraphy"). The picture shows an illustration from this book. It represents the various implements used by scribes.
