Parts of the Stern of a Parade Galley

around 1700
Carved and partially painted wood, 80 x 265 cm
Chiesa dei Cavalieri di Santo Stefano, Pisa

These high relief carvings once have been part of the stern of a parade ship which was used by Cosimo III de' Medici for navigation on the Arno. The carvings are among the few surviving examples of the activity of woodcarvers in the Pisan arsenal.
