On the back of the panel an inscription gives detailed information on the sitter. The painting is a rare example of a portrait with full-length standing figure. This type is found in illuminated manuscripts where married couples are depicted. Since the portrait is painted on vellum, it can be assumed that the artist was a book illuminator. The companion-piece representing Lysbeth's husband, Symon van Adrichem, is lost.
The painting is on loan from the Mauritshuis, The Hague.
