The Magdeburg Rider is from the Alter Markt (Old Market) in Magdeburg. Originally it stood on a slender pillar under a tabernacle-like baldachin that spanned both the rider and the flanking figures, two young women. This fully three-dimensional statue (perhaps Emperor Otto I), which is to some extent influenced by the Bamberg Rider, is designed to be viewed from below and from a distance.
