Polychromed wood

Romanesque art gradually made itself felt in post-Viking art in the Scandinavian countries, as a result of influences coming from north Germany and from England. This statue still retains something of the barbarian stylisation of the Viking era, but there is probably, too, some influence from the art of English miniaturists who, during the same period, favoured these elongated forms, plaited hair and sleeves falling almost to the ground.
