Study of a Standing Male Nude Figure (recto)

1520-21
Black chalk, 382 x 223 mm
Musée du Louvre, Paris

The quickly sketched nude figure can be connected with the four unfinished slave statues which were intended for the 1516 project of the tomb of Pope Julius II. With his outstretched right leg and lowered left arm the male nude most closely resembles the Bearded Slave.

The verso of the sheet shows a design for a double tomb in the Medici Chapel.
