Head Studies and a Female Figure Leaning Forward (verso)

1522-24
Red and black chalk, 271 x 191 mm
Teylers Museum, Haarlem

The drawing on the verso of this sheet is related to the Deposition composition on the recto. It depicts a female figure clad in a long garment and leaning forward. She is probably one of the three Marys, bending forward to assist the unconscious Virgin Mary. The head studies on the right edge were drawn by a pupil of Michelangelo.
