MICHELANGELO Buonarroti
(b. 1475, Caprese, d. 1564, Roma)

Study of a Left Male Leg (verso)

1515-20
Red and black chalk, 212 x 283 mm
Christ Church Picture Gallery, Oxford

At the right edge of the verso of this sheet an outstretched left leg with the beginning of the lower body is rendered in detail, while the knee-joint is drawn in thin lines in a separate study beside it. Possible connections with various works by Michelangelo were proposed, but none of them are convincing.
