Study of a Prophet or Evangelist (verso)

1553-56
Black chalk, 137 x 180 mm
Teylers Museum, Haarlem

On the verso of the sheet is a standing male figure with an open book. He is a prophet or evangelist and is repeated at the upper left. At the bottom of the sheet is a male torso drawn transversely. Recently it was assumed that the studies are related to the two sculptures of the apostles in the Ricci Chapel of San Pietro in Montorio for which Daniele da Volterra was commissioned in 1556.

On both sides of the sheet the artist drew various architectural studies.
