Charles I, King of England

Oil on canvas, 200 x 141 cm
Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

The present portrait of Charles I (1600-1649) is the prime version of one of the standard types of royal portraits that the artist painted in London between the king's accession to the throne in 1625 and Mijtens departure from London in 1634. There are several versions (workshop replicas and copies) of this portrait.
