Gerard Pietersz. Hulft (1621-1656) was the first councillor and director-general of the Dutch East India Company (V.O.C.) in 1654. He perished, as commandor-in-chief, at a young age in 1656 in the siege of Colombo. There is a portrait of Hulft by Govaert Flinck in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
