Lady Playing a Lute

c. 1660
Oil on panel, 42 x 31 cm
Private collection

This panel shows a lady playing a lute with a gentleman seated at a table in an interior. In his early genre scenes, such as the present one, Eglon van der Neer was inspired by Pieter de Hooch's and Gerard Terborch's innovative interiors - both artists he no doubt knew personally.
