The Concert

Callisto Piazza spent his formative years in Brescia, where he was deeply influenced by both Romanino and Moretto. This Concert, one of his greatest secular work, is a prime early example of a genre extremely popular in northern Italy. It shows a group of six men and women singing and playing instruments that include two recorders, a lyra da braccio, and a lute.Before them are two open part books, whose musical notations are largely legible.
