This painting is not included in the Bredius catalogue.
The attribution of this painting is debated. The grisaille was considered as an autograph Rembrandt that might have served as a preparatory sketch for Rembrandt's painting of this subject in Berlin. Later it was assigned to Jan Lievens. Recently it was reattributed to Rembrandt assuming that it was a prototype for an etching never executed.
