RENOIR, Pierre-Auguste
(b, 1841, Limoges, d. 1919, Cagnes-sur-Mer)

Young Girl with a Watering Can

1876
Oil on canvas, 100 x 73 cm
National Gallery of Art, Washington

Renoir excelled in the anecdotal depictions of women and children. The present painting is typical of these paintings in mature Impressionist style. The identity of the girl was not established, Renoir probably painted a neighbourhood child.
