RICCI, Marco
(b. 1676, Belluno, d. 1730, Venezia)

Architectural Capriccio

c. 1725
Oil on canvas, 60 x 108 cm
Private collection

The painting depicts an architectural capriccio with architectural fragments, statuary including a statue of a lion and an equestrian monument, together with figures. The combination of architectural and sculptural elements illustrates Ricci's interest in the antique, and it seems likely that he travelled to Rome (probably before 1700) though no such trip is documented.
