In this painting Sablet portrayed Louis-Michel Crucy (1786-1850). The Crucy family, originally from Nantes, played a leading role in the industry of shipbuilding under the First Empire in France. The Swiss painter settled in Nantes in 1805 and painted several members of the Crucy family. These portraits are in the Museum of Nantes.
