Monument to Angelo Marzi

The monument to Angelo Marzi is set on the left of the presbytery of Santissima Annunziata. It shows a life-image of Angelo Marzi reclining on a high plinth with a heavy moulding. It is signed on the base: FRANCISCVS IVLIANI SANGALLI FACIEB. M.D. XLVI. The front of the sarcophagus contains an incised Latin epitaph flanked by coats of arms.

Angelo Marzi (1476-1546) served as secretary successively to Cardinal Giovanni de' Medici (Pope Leo X), Giuliano de' Medici, Duke of Nemours, and Lorenzo de' Medici, Duke of Urbino. After the election of Cardinal Giulio de' Medici as Pope Clement VII, he was appointed Bishop of Assisi.
