The first villas in the Veneto were built in the 1530s along classical lines. In the following decade, Roman models mostly retained their dominating influence, as can be seen in the Villa Garzoni near Ponte Casale, which was designed by Jacopo Sansovino c. 1540, finished in 1550, and whose ground plan is modeled on Giulio Romano's Villa Farnesina.
