In his period in Prague, Savery drew various kind of people from everyday life, executed in chalk and graphite. Among his studies after life executed between 1804 and 1608 there are twelve pieces representing infantrymen and mounted soldiers. Most of these were Hungarian soldiers in the service of the Habsburgs. His interest must have been aroused by the unusual attire and equipment of the soldiers.
