The Jesuit Daniel Seghers was a pupil of Jan Brueghel the Elder. He continued his teacher's painstaking, virtuoso approach. He frequently painted a floral wreath surrounding a grisaille depiction of a Baroque statue by Erasmus II Quellinus.
