Evening performance in the Cour de Marbre

1664
Engraving
Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris

The park of Versailles was at least as important as the palace. It was the perfect setting for grandiose festivities. The "Plaisirs de l'ile enchantée" was a spectacle in honour of the queen, in which the king himself took part as the knight Sir Roger.

This engraving is from the series "Plaisirs de l'ile enchantée", the first day, 1664.
