The Delft painters Harmen Steenwijck and his brother Pieter might be considered representatives of a regional rather than a local style. Their tables piled with fruit, birds, fish, and unpretentious kitchen ware would be assigned to the Rotterdam school if their authors were unknown. Their other main subject, the vanitas still-life was at home in Leiden where the Steenwijcks actually trained.
