The Removal of the Wool from the Skins and the Combing

1595
Oil on panel
Stedelijk Museum De Lakenhal, Leiden

The artist was commissioned between 1594 and 1612 to make a series of paintings showing the several stages of the textile industry. The seven paintings were hung in the assembly room of the governors of the serge trade. Six of these have been saved and are kept in Stedelijk Museum De Lakenhal. Two of the six panels are allegories. The other four give detailed pictures of the working of wool into serge.
