The Motorist

1898
Black-and-white lithograph, 38 x 27 cm
Private collection

Sitting at the wheel is Lautrec's cousin, Gabriel Tapié de Céleyran. He and Paul Guibert were among the first motorists in Paris. The little dog, well-known from many of Lautrec's prints, seems to be quite unruffled by the noisy motorcar.
