The capitals and reliefs on the corner pillars of the cloister of Santo Domingo de Silos, to the south-east of Burgos, are some of the most remarkable Romanesque sculptures in existence. Started around the middle of the twelfth century and spread out over two storeys, it took a quarter of a century until the lower gallery was completely finished. The coupled capitals, which are the most important artistically, are in the east and north wings.
From the point of view of art history, the reliefs on the corner pillars are the most important works. They depict Biblical scenes.
