Sainte-Trophime, Arles

The monastery of Saint-Trophime possesses the most extravagant and lavish sculptured cloister in Provence. The north and east wings are the only remaining Romanesque sections, dating between 1150 and 1170. The iconographical themes of the scenes on the figured capitals in the north wing concentrate on the Passion, and Old Testament events are interspersed between them.
